About the Edition

During the Civil War a group of Confederates (mostly Texas Rangers) fought a battle at Glorieta Pass, New Mexico. During the battle a Yankee cannon ball exploded in the mouth of a Confederate cannon. The officer in charge of artillery was knocked unconscious as were his men. To explain the factual report of the loss of several small cannons after the battle this novel has the cannons and the gun crew captured by the Navahos. Usually the Indians would kill white me, but in order to use the arsenal they took the gunners with them to Navaho land. Job and his men integrated themselves into the tribe and became freighters to bring supplies to the Navahos and to haul Navaho goods to the white man"s world. When the Yankees marched the Navahos from Canyon de Chelly the men of the Southern army went with them. I think readers will enjoy the humor, mourn at the hurt to the Indians, and celebrate at the march back to Navaho land. signed Luther Butler, author
